Women in Business and Leadership

The ‘Chicken Soup Conference
A dynamic one-day conference and trade show committed to the
professional and personal development of mid-career businesswomen
with speakers and programming in three streams:

ENTREPRENEURIAL

CORPORATE -
PUBLIC SECTOR
LEADERSHIP

It enhances skill levels across private, public and not-for-profit sectors
while also providing networking and personal growth opportunities.
With a high caliber roster of over 20 featured speakers, panelists
and workshop offerings, the event is designed to offer networking
and personal growth opportunities by incorporating social and
interactive opportunities to maximize the opportunity for women to do
what women do best  …. network and support one another.

The conference was piloted in Victoria during the fall of 2004.
Based on this highly successful event, the conference is expanding
to include delivery in both Victoria and Vancouver during the fall of 2005.

The Need and Impact

There are over half a million women in business in British Columbia. Women own or operate close to 130,000 (36%) of small businesses in the province – the highest rate in Canada. Women’s efforts and leadership in business, government, education and not-for-profit community organizations contribute significantly to the financial and social sustainability of our provincial and national economy.

There are limited professional development opportunities
for women in business throughout British Columbia.
While there are many successful women’s events,

few are dedicated specifically to women in business
and none are programmed directly for mid-career women.

While the number of women in business has increased significantly over the past 20 years, there are still few women in senior executive positions or providing governance at the board level. Apart from the need to identify and develop these opportunities, it also means there is a lack of senior women mentors—one of the major reasons attributable to women not moving forward in these areas.  For this reason it is even more important that high-caliber peer mentoring opportunities exist for the ongoing development of women in business.

We invite you to join us and
share in this exciting day.
